Hyaluronic acid, the main ingredient in fillers, is an ingredient already existing in your skin (and other parts of your body), so the chance of an adverse reaction is very slight. The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising, which typically abate after a few days.
You may have heard of hyaluronic acid, as it’s also sold as a topical beauty treatment. Though lotions or serums with the ingredient may help to moisturize skin, the Harvard Medical Review stresses that hyaluronic acid only increases volume in the face when injected.
